Additional Training/
Internship/Work History:

I worked for 2 NPOs in central London with individuals/families at risk of/after child abuse or domestic violence, and refugee/migrant families from 2004-2009, both clinical work and supervising and training staff and volunteers.

2002-2009 I was a counsellor for women/child/adolescent survivors of sexual abuse and violence at CARA,(UK), 2002-2009. I was also a member of the Board of Directors and developed CARA's specialist training programme for volunteers and external organisations.

I have had a private practice for adults since 2006 (before moving to Japan) and also provided counselling for children in state primary schools. Since moving to Japan I have run a private practice, English Counselling Kansai, for children and adults, alongside counselling and emotional well-being work in international schools and other employment. I am also committed to developing community and voluntary services in Kansai.

Continuing Professional Development includes training in creative therapy with children/adolescents (sandtray work, etc); systemic trainings at the Tavistock Clinic; Childrens Advocacy (Uni of Essex), Triple P Parenting (enhanced); and a variety of courses on specific areas for adults. I was also an elected CAMHS Board member, and ran a conference on child mental health in London and have been a board member of IMHPJ.

Areas of Special Expertise:

I work in a way which combines psychodynamic and systemic understanding to help people grapple with their psychological difficulties without losing sight of their 'real world' problems, and to grasp the connections between the two (both past and present). My aim is to enable people to take control of their own lives rather than be controlled by others or by life itself. I also use art/play techniques when appropriate as a means to find creative alternatives and to work with children.

Please see my website for more information

I specialise in:
-recovery from traumatice experiences
-sexual and other abuse
-self harm
-gender and sexuality
-cultural issues, migration and cross-cultural families
-children, teenagers and/or their families
-general life issues and unhappiness without known cause
-relationship issues and family relationships

All are welcome for initial consultation even if you do not see yourself among my specialities, although I will be open about any limitations I have in specific areas.
